Books & Events with Kellogg Hubbard Library

On Saturday, December 1st, Kellogg Hubbard Library honored Mary Azarian at their annual Evening at the Library.

Mary is a Vermont woodcut artist, who received the Caldecott Medal in 1999, but might be best known locally for her alphabet books (check out A Gardener's Alphabet and A Farmer's Alphabet) and calendars (which, the Saturday speakers agreed, we all miss).

Mary was introduced by Grace Greene and Leda Schubert who, among other accomplishments, spoke at Bear Pond Books' November 3rd kick off to National Picture Book Month. If you missed Grace and Leda in November, check out their comments here - including a story from Leda about Mary's Caldecott-winning book Snowflake Bentley. They spoke as part of Bear Pond Books' new series of events and online resources that explore strategies educators use to inspire a love of learning while meeting the Common Core standards.

Mary Azarian's art remains on display in Kellogg Hubbard and will be featured on Friday (December 7th) in the Montpelier Art Walk. You can also see all the Mary Azarian books available through Bear Pond Books here.
